2 a Day

I was listening to a CD series on Tips to Success while I worked out this morning and one of the speakers mentioned something I had not heard in a while -

2 a Day Brings Success My Way!

Imagine how powerful this would be in your MLM Business Opportunity! It doesn't matter what company you are with, what product you represent or how new or old you are in your business, people are the lifeblood!

The power in just talking to 2 people a day about your business or your products is staggering. It may not seem like much that day (and on the other hand, it may seem like a TON) at the end of the month, you'll have talked to 60 people. I would be willing to bet, if you are doing things correctly and keeping the needs of the person to whom you are speaking in mind, you are going to have some level of success to report back at the end of that month!

Consistency in this business is CRITICAL!

If you are feeling overwhelmed and as if you are struggling, stop for a minute and determine what your 5 most important action steps are EACH DAY and EACH WEEK.

Certainly, talking to 2 people a day would move you forward if it was on your daily action list.

In my home candle business, this can consist of many different types of contact and does not have to revolve around recruiting!

This could be calling 2 people about fundraisers; calling 2 people about hosting a party for you; calling 2 people to ask - "who do you know who likes to get free stuff and have parties?"; calling 2 people to ask -"Who do you know who loves candles and might want to earn some extra income?"

What is YOUR 2-A-DAY going to be today?

Do You Worry if You Will EVER Make Money in MLM?

Well, if you haven’t made any money you may well be worried that you are just throwing money down a big money pit. Sound familiar?

And, if you are at the very beginning, with an established team but the growth seems SO SLOW, don’t sweat it. You are headed in the right direction!

Here are some ideas for ensuring that the money WILL come –

Commit to your own success and shrug off any temptation to quit.

Evaluate your belief in your company, your products, the industry. You must be solid in ALL THREE areas. If there is doubt in anyone, go to work on solving this.

Don’t be jealous or catty about those who are successful. Instead, extend a bridge and use them as a positive resource for knowledge and growth. Study what they are doing, the words they are saying, the actions they are taking. Ask them what book they are currently reading.

Look carefully at your use of the word failure. How is this word controlling you? Is it failure if a person tells you no? What if someone tells you that you are crazy? NONE of this is failure. This is simply a chance for you to evaluate yourself, your goals and rededicate to your own success. Failure can only occur if you refuse to see the growth that emerges from every business interaction you engage in.

Engage in as much personal growth and development time as you can possibly fit in. Read ten minutes from a personal growth book right before you call prospects or have any encounters about your business. Your mindset, even if you don’t realize it, will determine your destiny.

Give yourself permission to have success. REALLY. You might be thwarting your own success by some deep seeded belief that you are not worthy of success. Sure you are! You are as worthy as ANYONE. Go to the mirror, look yourself in the eyes for one full minute and refuse to look away. Say to yourself – “I am a winner and other winners flock to me.” Smile and wink! Seal the deal.

Know that you can make very big money in MLM even if you don’t have a large budget. It will require one of two things, however. Time and sweat equity, or money. All three are nice, but you can be successful just by rolling up your sleeves, thinking outside of the box and willing to push beyond your comfort zone.

You can do it!

10 Commitments for Your MLM Business

1. Have Fun! This is seldom mentioned in your business but let’s face it – this is a volunteer business. In the beginning, you get paid very little for putting in lots of effort. Over time, you get paid a tremendous amount for not so much time. At all times, and especially in those early days, make sure you are in a business you can have fun with. Have fun with the Product; Have fun with the People and Have Fun Growing Yourself.

2. Be Your Own Best Customer. Be a product of your product and know it inside and out. Develop a story to share with others on the your personal product use. Instill confidence in your customers and potential business partners through your product knowledge and passion. Buy everything you possibly can from your own “store.” Replace any competing products in your home with your own product line.

3. Understand the personal growth curve. Personal growth comes in many forms in this business. It can be in developing belief in yourself that you can do it. It can also be developing belief in the Network Marketing industry. Consult with your upline on steps you might take to develop yourself. Ask for a recommended reading list. Also, understand that there is often a growth curve in simply growing your income beyond whatever your highest income level achieved previously might be. Go with the flow and allow the process to unfold.

4. Take on some form of weekly accountability, whether with yourself, your sponsor or someone you can relate to. Set your goals at the beginning of the week around action steps you can take to move forward in your business. Use a chart to set the goals and then mark off accomplished steps. At the end of the week, match up your steps with your goals. Reward yourself for all of the positives and revisit the negatives and decide on some methods for improvement.

5. Be aware of obstacles that you create. These may include – Fear, Procrastination, “Busy” work. Instead of pretending these don’t exist, take a look at them. When a feeling creeps in that is unwanted, instead of brushing it off, have a conversation with it. Silly though it may sound, being lighthearted about it can put you in a place of feeling empowered instead of disempowered. Ask the feeling to go away if it has no intention of moving you forward.

6. Find some mentors. These can be upline, crossline or in a completely different company. There are many great leaders in the industry who started out just like you and are happy to share some tips and ideas. Just look around. Find someone who has like values as you, and a similar style of working the business. Model their action steps and watch what happens.

7. Write down your goals. Yes, this means YOU! Success starts with first seeing it in your mind, then on paper and then making it a reality. Start with goals that you can control such as action steps you will commit to taking daily and weekly. It can be challenging to set income goals in the very beginning, so set goals that are realistic and that you can control. Accomplish those and then write down some more!

8. Commit to a schedule for working your business. Yes, I know this can be challenging with work, family, and the many other commitments that consume our time. But, if you don’t make time for your business, how is the business ever going to really work and create what you really want? It won’t happen without your commitment to it. Again, be realistic. If you have only 5 hours, make the most of those 5 hours and don’t concern yourself with the fact that it isn’t 10. Create some success and you’ll be amazed at how more time will open up.

9. Tune out negative outside influences. Just like those obstacles mentioned above, these do nothing to serve you positively. Some people are not going to be interested in your product or your business, and still others are going to tell you that you are crazy for doing this. Sometimes, it may be the person closest to you. Decide right now if you are truly committed to your own success in this endeavor and then refuse to listen to what anyone else feels compelled to say or share. Pretend that it is none of your business! Because, it isn’t!

10. Have belief in YOU. YOU are the most positive asset you have in this business. And, you control YOU. Decide to be the type of person others attract to and want to work with. Decide to be the best you can be each day in your business and decide that each day you will get better and better. Believe that if it has happened for one, it can happen for you. Just as you believe that the sun that is setting today is going to rise again tomorrow, shining a bright light on you and your journey!

MLM and the Path of Least Resistance

If you've been in MLM for any amount of time, you may have had that feeling of a fish swimming upstream against the current. Or, even like a fish out of water. No one seems to want your product, your opportunity, and they certainly don’t understand why you are doing this.

Have you ever felt this way?

I felt this way for years in the business. And, I struggled with my thoughts and feelings of being out of alignment. I felt that way until I finally found what was right for me in this business. I want to share that with you and see if it might help you in deciding where your fit is in the industry and how you might reach that place of feeling "in balance."

My journey down the "path of least resistance" started with determining who my target market is within the industry and defining what the characteristics are of this market.

Women make up the majority of network marketers, and that was a bonus for me, since I am a woman. I am also a stay home mom, raising my children and determined to be at home for that aspect of my life. I found that many in the network marketing industry also fit that characteristic.

Now, here are a few of the characteristics within that target market that are also prevalent.

First, many women do not control the checkbook in the family and this gives them a limited amount of money to invest into a business. Their spouses will okay a certain amount to invest in a business, and that is usually not enough to truly cover what is required to make a network marketing venture successful.

Second, women are not "natural born recruiters." Many must experience success with the product and have a sense that it performs as it should before they will naturally share the idea with others.

Third, women do not typically like to see themselves as "sales people."

Now, let's talk about some characteristics within the industry and how these may affect the performance of the female target market.

The network marketing industry is built largely on the concept of having an "auto-ship" of goods and services to the distributors in the field. Each month, a set product, or dollar amount ships out to the active distributors. Depending on the company, this product is meant for either personal consumption, or can be retailed to others.

Most typical auto-ship costs range any where from $100 - 300, depending on the company.

As I mentioned before, if a woman does not control the check book in her family, this leaves very little budget for marketing the business, which is required to build a large, successful organization.

And, in most companies, there is no real way to earn an income retailing the product. In most nutritional companies, the wholesale cost of the product is at or even above the wholesale cost of an equivalent product at a quality vitamin and supplement store. This means that $100 -300 auto-ship of products is left to the distributor to consume.

So, the whole focus is on sponsoring. In order to make money, one must be able to sponsor others into the program.

I also found that in many programs, as you move up the ranks, you must increase the amount of your auto-ship in order to earn your full paycheck.

While I do believe that network marketing is an awesome business and an incredible way to truly develop a "work at home" income, many of these characteristics about the industry were making it difficult for my target market to be a success. It could be done, but it likely would not be done by the masses.

Many women are looking first and foremost for a way to earn a couple hundred dollars extra a month. They want to find a product they believe in and a method for getting that product out there and pocketing the money.

They don't want to recruit or feel compelled to build a team of others.

And, I have found that given the chance, they will fall into team building in a very natural way if they can first experience some success within the other aspects of the business.

As I began to look for a company that would be a fit for me, I realized that a few things really needed to be in place for me to access my target market, and offer something that would appeal to them; that they could see themselves doing successfully; and that would fit into the monthly budget they have to put toward a business.

Here are the characteristics I determined must be in place for a business I pursued to be successful -

1. Product with strong market appeal - others would want the product without needing to be convinced.

2. Product had to have a wholesale price that was low enough to allow a retail mark-up where a distributor could put cash in the pocket right away.

3. This would allow the distributor to make money without being forced to recruit.

4. This would also provide a way for the distributor to develop a budget for advertising that came from the business itself - retailing the product. So, no extra money needed to come out of the family budget to fund the business.

5. Had to have a low, monthly auto-ship cost, and the ability to recoup that monthly investment through retail.

And, I am thrilled to report there are a handful of companies out there that fit this criterion. This meant there was something out there I could be successful with and then truly teach others within my target market to do the same.

Once I began to pursue network marketing from this angle, things really changed for me. Not only was I able to make my opportunity a success, but I have been able to sponsor others into the program and teach them how to also be successful.

Today, I am back in balance and no longer feel like that fish swimming against the current. I am on the path of least resistance within the network marketing industry.

If you do or have felt this way, I encourage you to spend some time defining who your target market is, and what fits this target market. Know the parameters you are working with for success within this market. Then, find the companies who will offer what you need to provide in order to be successful.

Good luck finding your path of least resistance within the network marketing industry.
